Maestro Maxim Vengerov, will be present at the Summer Master classes in the future and will preside over the selection of new students.
Every summer, IMMA organises a ten-day summer course, sponsored by the Fondation Simón I. Patiño, for young students of high calibre. It includes concerts, lessons and workshops and gives them the opportunity of sharing musical experiences with world-renowned artists. These studies are complemented by presentations of theory and technique.
Maestro Lysy died, after battling illness, at the end of 2009. We mourn his departure, not least because IMMA owes a great debt to him. Alberto Lysy was a wonderful violinist and instinctive musician from a generation past. His values underpinned the Academy and gave it its identity throughout the time he was director.
Werner Schmitt
December 10, 2009 Werner Schmitt was awarded the „Verdienstkreuz am Bande des Verdienstordens der Bundesrepublik Deutschland“. This honors his longtime contribution to music, which went far beyond the usual duties as Director of the Musikschule Konservatorium Bern. Werner Schmitt became a Board Member of IMMA in January 2009. We appreciate his abilities, both musical and managerial, as well as his valuable contributions to the Academy.
New Double CD: J. S. Bach : Sonatas & Partitas For Solo Violin
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the world famous International Menuhin Music Academy, Dinemec Classics have released a brand new Double CD of the complete set of Bach partitas and sonatas for solo violin. Masterfully performed by Bogdan Zvoristeanu, an alumni student and now teacher at the Academy, as well as first soloist of the world renowned Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. Considered as the summit of violin literature and deemed the most challenging body of work to perform, ‘The Three Sonatas and Three Partitas for Violin without accompanied bass’ are amongst the most discussed bodies of work in classical music. So considering the occasion it is appropriate to pay these ‘divinely woven’ sounds yet another visit.
